I’ll be honest with you… I never thought I would love wearing velvet. It reminds me of my time when I was a little kid during my gymnastics competitions. I loved doing gymnastics for more than 18 years, but a couple months ago it was time for some new things in life and gymnastics wasn’t as great for me as it used to be. During those gymnastics competitions we were wearing almost the same velvet bodysuits that you can now find in almost every store.
According to my gymnastics history you can say that I was wearing those velvet bodysuits at least two times a year since I was six years old. Hmm, I was a trend forecaster back then!
But back to the velvet theme! When you first think of velvet it may conjure up images of 70’s rock stars, renaissance festivals or your Grandma’s sofa. Erase those images from your minds girls, this season it’s time to get your crush on! So brands and designers are coveting this ultra chic fabric in every way, shape and form! It’s o soft, it’s begging to be touched!
Velvet has been a staple in fall and winter fashion for a while, but before that, it was often used in formal wear. Now velvet is re-imagined in tops, dresses, blazers, and even shoes and bags. It’s a thicker fabric that is very, very warm to wear so it’s perfect for when the weather gets a little bit colder.
But there is one disadvantage of wearing velvet items. Watch closely to the fabric when you’re buying the velvet trend. Some of the velvet tops or dresses will look pretty cheap when you’re wearing it. Especially if the velvet is a thinner fabric.
Whether you choose to infuse details like a choker or bootie, full on crush head-to-toe in this luxe fabric, go vintage, designer or high street you can’t go wrong this season with velvet.

Beware; velvet clothing is addictive! My fashion bucket list is filled with velvet items. I would like to have a beautiful black velvet fitted blazer or maybe a velvet co-ord (let me know where I can get them). The only sad part of this is that it will cost you money, but maybe a happy thought; the sale is coming up in (I think) about two weeks. Patience is a virtue!
